Best Back to School Laptop Deal Sites

Looking for a new computer or laptop before heading back to school this year? Aren’t we all! Unfortunately, if you can’t wait until Black Friday in November, where you really find some crazy deals, then you’ll have to start early and have some patience to find a good deal on a laptop.
Whenever I buy a new laptop or desktop, I always give myself a month to a month and a half to find a good deal. You’ll never get a great deal on a laptop if you walk into Best Buy and buy something the same day. For those with a little time, deal sites can help you save a bundle.
I recently purchased a desktop that was originally selling $550 for only $280! There were multiple rebates and coupon codes that I was able to use. Pretty sweet deal. I’ll show you the sites that I follow for getting great deals on laptops.

SlickDeals.net

This is definitely my favorite site for find great deals. It’s updated constantly and they have a lot of sections for finding specific deals on TVs, computers, etc. I normally don’t visit the website, but instead follow their Twitter account since I check that more often.

They also have a nice page dedicated to Back to School deals. It’s basically deals on laptops, tablets, clothes and other school related stuff.

DealNews.com

My second favorite is dealnews.com. Just browse down to their laptop deals section and check it every day for about two weeks. You’ll be sure to find a great laptop for under $500. I say wait two weeks because there are a lot of laptops under $500, but you want to wait for one that has better specs.

If you can, find deals on laptops that have a Core i3, i5 or i7 processor instead of a Celeron processor. Of course, if you want a computer for around $250, then a Celeron will be best for you. It’s best though if you aren’t planning on installing very much software or doing anything intense. If it’s just browsing the web, viewing pics and videos, then a Celeron will be ok.

TechBargains.com

Tech Bargains is all about finding a good deal on computers, laptops, tablets and other tech-related stuff. Since the site is so focused on just tech, you can really find a lot of good deals on their site. Dell always has these deals with multiple rebates and Tech Bargains is a good source for finding those multiple rebate deals.

BensBargins.net

Bens Bargains has a lot of different types of deals, so you have to check out their laptop section specifically. What I like about their site is they have a hotness bar that tells you how hot the deal is. Obviously, the hotter it is, the faster it’ll sell out. Again, it’s a good idea to create a Twitter list and add all these deal sites to that list. That way you can keep the deal stuff separate from your normal Twitter feed. Following on Twitter is better because you can be one of the first to know about a deal and act before it sells out.

FatWallet.com

image
FatWallet.com has been around for a long time and is probably one of the most popular deal sites. They do list deals like other sites, but the real value of FatWallet comes from the Forums. They have a ton of people posting there and the crowd-sourced deal finding paradigm works fairly well. I have found a lot of great deals in those forums, so check them often.

Woot!

image
Woot! only shows you one deal a day, but it’s a really good deal! And now they have a Tech woot too! It’s best to check out the site early in the morning every day for at least a month. Laptop deals don’t come often, but if it does, it’s probably going to be worth buying.

DealCatcher.com

Not as popular as some of the other sites mentioned, but still has been growing bigger and bigger every year. They usually have a couple of laptops every day listed and the deals are pretty good.
So these are the sites that I use to find great deals on laptops. Mostly, though, it just takes a lot of patience. You won’t find a deal the first day you start looking. You have to check often and from various sources. It’s also a good idea to go to a site like Amazon and see if the price of the laptop is cheaper there or to read reviews from other people who own that laptop. Sometimes the price is good, but a laptop might have a problem which you’ll only find out from customer reviews.
What’s your favorite sites/places to find deals on laptops? Let us know in the comments. Enjoy!
